EVENT INFORMATION AND FAQ'S

Mondello Park is Ireland’s only FIA Licenced international motor racing circuit. It is situated in Donore, Co. Kildare just minutes from Naas and approximately 30-miles from Dublin City Centre. The track has a number of layout options with Mondello24 being staged on the longest 3.5km ‘international’ layout.

While the home of Irish motorsport, Mondello Park is not stranger to cycling having hosted many cycling league races taking advantage of the smooth asphalt and racing lines all in a safe environment and no road traffic.

Distance: 3.5km
Elevation: 82m

Mondello24 can be undertaken as an individual or as a team with competitors able to compete under the following categories -

  • Solo men
  • Solo Women
  • 2-person team
  • 4-person team
  • 8-person team

Mondello24 is open teams of up to eight riders. Teams get to share the distance they cover as they relay around the track.

It’s not just going to be fun for the riders, but for the non-competing Crew Members who are welcome to add encouragement, strategy and support throughout the weekend.

The environment in the paddock and pit garages is as much a part of this weekend as it is about the action on the track.

We understand that getting teams together can be hard and riders can suffer injuries in training or suddenly become unavailable for other reasons. Once a team has been entered, it will be possible to make alterations to the final line-up ahead of race day should it be required.

Mondello24 is for Road bikes, as this is a drafting event. No time trial bikes, bikes with aero bars or full disc wheels are permitted. E-bikes are also not permitted.

All riders entered for Mondello24 must sign on prior to take part. Sign on will take place at Mondello Park at the following times -

Friday 15th October 7pm – 9pm
Saturday 16th October 6am – 9am

Being a 24-hour race, it will start and finish at the same time of day just one day apart. The inaugural Mondello24 with kick off at midday on Saturday, October 16th, and finish at midday on October 17 just in time for a well earn Sunday lunch!

Start - 12noon
Finish - 12noon

Solo riders and teams will roll out at the same time.

Mondello Park will organise two practice dates in the run up to the event for all registered riders (Dates TBC). This track time is included as part of the entry fee for Mondello24. The practice session will run from evening into darkness so as riders can get familiar with the circuit layout in darkness.

As a 24 hour race, riders will ride into the sunset, through the darkness of night and greet the following morning’s sunrise. As Mondello Park does not traditionally run events through the darkness of night, it does not have flood lighting around the circuit. It is therefore up to each rider to have adequate front and rear lights on their bike for the duration of the race. Remember, depending on how much riding in darkness you will be doing, you may need a second set of lights/batteries. Mains power will be available throughout the event in order for riders to charge lights.

Each solo or team rider will pick up their numbers and chip timing at sign on. Once you begin the event your timing will continue for the full 24 hours.

Entry and set up is available in the paddock between 7pm and 9pm on Friday 15th October and on Saturday 16th October from 7am to 9am.

Only participant support vehicles will be allowed into the paddock for set up. All other vehicles can park in designated parking spaces outside the paddock. Crews wishing to stay on site overnight on the Friday are welcome to do so with facilities available on site.

Each solo rider and team will be allocated a lot in the paddock for support team set up. This will be allocated closer to the event weekend. There will be access to electricity and WIFI in the paddock.

There will be showers and toilets available throughout the event.

There will be 24-hour snacks, teas, and coffee available within the paddock. There will also be freshwater stations available in the paddock 24/7.

Additional food options to be confirmed.

There will be full time medical support throughout the event.

Mechanical services will be available before the event in the paddock. For information about mechanical issues on the track please see the rules. However, everybody is expected to bring the basics with them for the event i.e. Puncture repair kit, spare tube, pump and tyre levers. It is strongly advised that you know how to fix a simple puncture as this could save you a lot of waiting time on the day.

There will be mechanical service vehicles available over the 24hours. If you encounter a problem that you are unable to sort yourself on the track, call the Mechanical helpline number, which you will receive at sign on. Please give clear and precise information on the nature of the problem and where you are located.

The nearest backup team will be sent to assist you, but please understand that they may take some time to reach you. For more info please see the event rule book.

Presentations will take place at 1pm on Sunday 17th October at the podium in the paddock area. The winners in each category will be the riders that cover most distance in 24 hours.

You can race as a solo rider or you can enter a team of 2, 4 or 8 people.

As a team you get to race in relay with your friends. You can decide on your team strategy and change it as needed throughout the event.
