It’s time to get busy as 2024 Mondello Park calendar ramps up
February 27, 2024Motorsport events and results can be very unpredictable but one thing that is not is just how busy Mondello Park becomes once the beginning of March arrives.
Normally in February, we are looking forward to the continuing Irish RallyX Championship and preparing for pre-season testing for the ICCR and Masters Superbike Championships in advance of the beginning of race action in April. This year however we have to add another event into our early season plans as one of our season highlights, JapFest, moves to a new date in April.
JapFest – April 27th & 28th
JapFest has been running for more than fifteen years now, and always towards the end of the season, with the intoxicating mix of Drifting action, trade stands and top quality Japanese cars continuing to grow in popularity despite the events longevity. This year however we need to be on the ball a lot earlier, as the Mondello Park calendar is set for a major change. For 2024 JapFest will become the first, rather than the last, big modified show of the season when its’ date moves to April 27th and 28th. What a way to kick off the competitive drifting season.
IRX March 2nd & 3rd & ICCR March 8th
As we emerge from our partial winter hibernation our season really ramps up in March when Mondello Park becomes the hive of activity that it then remains through into the late Autumn and early Winter months. The Parts for Cars Irish RallyX championship gets the month of March going with another double header on the 2nd and 3rd, while the ICCR racers have their first pre-season test the following weekend, on Friday March 8th.
Drift Games invitational – 9th-10th March
To warm us up for Jap-Fest, the Driftgames ‘Spring Brake’ Invitational will kick off the Drift season with two days of track action and late night entertainment. With loads of guests appearing on track and off, including Noriyaro, Josiah Fallaise and James Deane, to name just three, and the Driftgames crew presenting the live Driftgames pod cast, there will be plenty of off-track entertainment to go with the fourteen hours of open track time on multiple track layouts.
Masters Superbike Championship – March 23rd & 24th
After an enforced lay-off during 2023, one of the things we are most looking forward to this March is the return of the Masters Superbike Championship competitors, who get back on track with two days of testing on March 23rd and 24th. Motorcycle fans who have missed their fix of high speed action can come along and get a close up look at all of the new machinery and meet the riders over our pre-season test weekend, free of charge, as we re-open our doors to two wheeled action.
Driving Experiences
Adding to our events and shows our driving activity days are all back up and running after their winter slumber, with the Formula Single Seater, BMW, Porsche, Ferrari, Drifting and Rally experiences all on track over the coming weeks and our simulator experience also back in action.
As our Race, Event and driving experience calendars continue to expand it looks like we are in for another busy and unpredictable year, but that’s just the way we like it.
