Like all other sports venues Mondello Park has been closed since March due to government restrictions in place to combat the Covid-19 pandemic. With Irish motorsport's governing body, Motorsport Ireland, also having cancelled all Motorsport events until July 20th at the earliest, the Irish Motorsport season has not seen any action so far this year. As the government restrictions are now being eased, circuit racing is almost ready to make its return, albeit behind closed doors, and Mondello Park is currently planning a reduced season of Car, Rallycross and Rallysprint events. The Irish RallyX Championship will look to start its new season in impressive style, as the six round championship heads to Mondello Park this Sunday, March 8th, for its season opener. Round one has attracted an impressive line up in the Supercar and Modified classes with some new machinery ready to hit the track alongside the series regulars. This Sunday, November 3rd, the Irish Motor Racing season is rounded out by the longest and toughest event of the year as the annual Fiesta 6 Hour Endurance Race hits Mondello Park. Contested by cars from the Keelan Construction Fiesta Zetec series the grid for the race will be made up of more than twenty cars with up to four drivers per team. Mondello Park has this afternoon announced, that the penultimate event of the 2019 'Parts for Cars' Irish Rallycross championship, which was scheduled to run at the Kildare circuit on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th of October, will now not take place. The decision to cancel the championship double header, which has been taken reluctantly by the circuits management, was brought about by continuing low levels of entries for Rallycross events, despite exhaustive efforts to breathe new life into the championship by Mondello Park, Motorsport Ireland and a number of other parties. Kilkenny's Richie Ryan made Dunlop Masters Superbike Championship history at Mondello Park on Sunday September 29th, as he came out on top of the Superbike battle to become the first Triple Champion in the history of the class. The Supersport division went to Ray Casey from Cork, as that title also went down to the final day of the eighteen round series. Richie Ryan's third championship triumph in a row was his hardest fought as the Mobil1 Yamaha rider was pushed harder this season than ever before. The penultimate event of the 2019 Dunlop Masters Superbike Championship saw the Superbike and Supersport Championship leaders both maintain their lead following an incident filled weekend on the Mondello Park National Track, but both battles will go down to the wire as the point differences remain tight. Richie Ryan won both of the Superbike races that were run, as delays on Saturday, caused by accidents and an oil spillage, caused the cancellation of most of the afternoons racing. The 2019 Mondello Park Historic Festival, on Sunday August 18th, attracted large crowds and an impressive turn out of Mini's of all ages as the event celebrated sixty years of the groundbreaking British car. Sunday's festival was also set to include Car and Motorcycle Racing as well as Historic Race Car demonstrations, music, food and entertainment, with the retro feel added to by the circuit staff and many show visitors opting to dress in fifties and sixties style. Masters Superbike Championship Young Racer of the Year, Caolán Irwin, continued his strong form in the British Superstock 600 championship at Thruxton last weekend (August 2nd to 4th), as he took his second British Championship podium of the season with an impressive third place.
